What is Education Data Management (EDM)? It’s a new, integrated approach for managing data at the district level—Student Information, Assessments, Professional Development Data, and Special Education Data. STI’s EDM solutions provide increased efficiency and reliability to data management processes, allowing districts to focus on their core mission—student achievement.
Unique Approach
STI’s success is based on providing innovative software programs for the K-12 market, as well as on a comprehensive service and support approach. This unique approach includes intimate training and capacity building for school, district and state customers. This approach has led to very high customer satisfaction and an equally high retention rate of customers over the last twenty years. STI’s support and customer care representatives do not stay in a call center. They actually visit schools and do in-person training for customers. STI’s Support Services Department also produces a series of user conferences every year, which routinely attract thousands of customers. These conferences are important vehicles to deliver training, and they provide a cost effective way for end users to receive training, while providing a networking opportunity to share best practices.
History and Growth
STI began in 1982 by developing administrative software for schools and had early success in the southeastern United States. As schools’ needs changed over time, STI expanded its product suite to include new features and functionality to address these changing needs.
In 1999, the Commonwealth of Kentucky selected STI as its sole vendor of student information systems. The state mandated that all of its 176 districts and 1,271 public schools use STI’s core system, STIOffice, for their education data management needs. The state also requested a district-to-state reporting product, which STI has since developed and delivered. Additionally, Kentucky has also adopted STISpecial Education Tracking System for all its districts.
In 2003, the state of Alabama selected STI to provide student information systems and special education tracking to all local education agencies in the state. STI and the State of Alabama recently completed the implementation of the student information system and the special education tracking system on time and on budget. Special education teachers throughout the state, also have STIProfessional Development Tracking to manage their certifications.
In 2004, STI acquired TestU, a leading provider of assessment and test preparation products. The acquisition propels STI into the growing assessment market. STI has launched STIAssessment, a fully integrated assessment platform for schools, which allows educators to create, administer, score and report on assessments.
The company currently has over 6,000 schools under contract and operates in twenty-eight states. |
