Graduation By Design, The Achievement Program Built For High Schools

Graduation By Design is a custom program from STIAchievement Services engineered to assist high schools reach the following goals in a timely and customized manner.

  • Have more students passing all parts of the graduation exams required in their state.
  • Have more students passing all credits for courses needed to graduate.
  • Have fewer students becoming “at-risk” or high school “drop-outs”.

How do we plan to do this? By Design—not by chance or serendipity, but with a focused, intense, and targeted approach called a Blueprint. The Blueprint will be customized and will be responsive to individual schools’, administrators’, educators’, and students’ needs.

The Graduation by Design Blueprint Elements

Data Analysis by Design
The meta-analysis will begin with a review of the Annual Accountability Reports for the school and district. This will include tracking for student completion of credits for courses and passing of the graduation exam. The analysis will be based on individual school and student reports, which will include both annual and longitudinal studies.

During the course of the school year, formative assessment analyses will be completed and presented to the administration and educational stakeholders. These analyses will be based on formative assessments (common or benchmark assessments) and practice assessments for the graduation exam.

Assessment by Design
STI has created TESTPacks, two practice assessments for Reading and two practice assessments for Math that are correlated to the graduation exam standards. There are also practice assessments for Social Studies and Language. Preparations are being made for the creation of Science assessments. The TESTPacks, along with a true formative assessment program will allow teachers to track student mastery of standards throughout the school year. STIAchievement Services will assist high schools in the creation of valid formative assessments, which are recommended by leading researchers as one of the most effective methods of improving student achievement.

Curriculum Planning by Design
STIAchievement specialists will collaborate with the educational community at individual schools to determine how curriculum should be delivered during the school year to ensure all objectives are taught and mastered before the graduation exam is administered.

Coaching by Design
STIAchievement specialists will provide coaching for schools in the following areas:

  • Understanding the Graduation Rate Formula
  • Curriculum pacing
  • Formative assessments
  • Conducting data meetings
  • Using data to plan instruction
  • Using Item Specifications effectively
